The biggest gain from modern controls is often not the app but how the boiler fires. A condensing boiler only condenses, and reaches its best efficiency, when the water returning to it is cool enough. Controls that turn the boiler down gently, through OpenTherm or weather compensation, keep that return water cooler than simple on-off switching does.
Where the thermostat sits matters as much as which one you buy. In a cold hallway it keeps the boiler running and overheats the living room; above a radiator or in afternoon sun it switches the heating off too early. Moving it is one of the simplest comfort fixes we make.

Will a smart thermostat work with my boiler?
Most modern boilers work with at least one of the major brands. Some manufacturers’ own controls unlock features third-party thermostats cannot. We check the make and model before recommending one.
Do smart radiator valves replace a thermostat?
They work alongside the system controls. The valves manage each room, and the boiler still needs to be told when to fire. We set them up so the two work together.
Can I fit one myself?
Some are designed for DIY. Anything involving mains wiring at the boiler is best left to an engineer, because a wiring mistake can stop the boiler working altogether.
