Air conditioning · Installation

Quiet air conditioning, sized for the room.

Top-floor flats, loft conversions, south-facing bedrooms, home offices that cook by mid-afternoon. A wall-mounted split system cools quietly, heats efficiently in winter, and needs only a small hole through the wall. We size it to the room and plan the outdoor unit before we quote.

What’s included

The work, done properly.

  • Room-by-room sizing for sun, glazing and how the room is used
  • Single split and multi-split systems
  • Wall, floor and ceiling cassette indoor units
  • Pipe and condensate routes planned around your finishes
  • Planning, listed building and freeholder consent checked before we quote
  • F-Gas certified installation, pressure testing and commissioning
  • Heating mode setup and a walkthrough of the controls

Signs you need this

  • Bedrooms too hot to sleep in during a heatwave
  • A loft conversion or top-floor flat that traps heat
  • Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
  • A home office or comms cupboard that overheats
  • A room the radiators never quite reach

Most new split systems use R32 refrigerant and are reversible: they are air-to-air heat pumps, so the unit that cools a bedroom in July heats it efficiently in November. For a room the central heating struggles to reach, that can be as useful as the cooling.

The outdoor unit is usually the hard part. Flats, listed buildings and homes in conservation areas often need planning permission or consent for anything on an outside wall, and leaseholders usually need the freeholder’s consent, sometimes a formal licence to alter. We check before we quote, so you are not paying for a system you cannot fit.

Bigger is not better. An oversized unit chills a room in minutes, switches off before it has taken the moisture out of the air, and leaves it cool and clammy. We size each unit to the room’s glazing, orientation and use.

How it works

01

Survey

We look at the rooms, the walls, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit.

02

Consents and quote

We check planning and freeholder requirements, then send a written quote.

03

Install

Indoor unit, pipework, outdoor unit and drainage fitted, with dust sheets down.

04

Commission

Pressure tested, evacuated, run in cooling and heating, then handed over.

  • Gas Safe registeredEvery gas job is done by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.
  • MCS-certified heat pumpsRequired for Boiler Upgrade Scheme grants.
  • F-Gas certifiedAir conditioning and refrigerant work done to the regulations.

Questions

Air conditioning installation, answered.

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?

It depends on the property and where the outdoor unit goes. Flats, listed buildings and homes in conservation areas often need permission or consent, and leaseholders usually need the freeholder’s consent as well. We check what applies before we quote.

Can air conditioning heat as well?

Yes. Most modern split systems are reversible heat pumps and heat a room efficiently, which makes them a useful top-up for rooms the central heating does not serve well.

How noisy is it?

Modern indoor units are quiet on their lower settings. We site the outdoor unit away from bedroom windows and neighbours wherever the building allows, and check this at the survey.

How long does installation take?

A single split system is often fitted in a day. Multi-split systems and long pipe routes take longer.
